Hi Family and Friends! 🙂
My week has been wonderful and hard. As Elder Jeffrey R. Holland said, “I am convinced that missionary work is not easy because salvation is not a cheap experience. Salvation never was easy.” Salvation is not cheap. Our salvation is paid by the life of Him who was pure and perfect; Jesus Christ. I know that Heavenly Father was trying me this week, and I am so thankful for that. Heavenly Father has been pushing me so hard. But after the trial, blessings always follow – if we remain faithful. This blessing came through a man named David.
On Thursday Sister Marroquin met David. We saw him sitting outside of the Temple, we felt prompted to speak with him. We introduced ourselves and got to know him better. He recently moved here from Arizona, Tuscon and he will be here until September. He is in the military and in September he will be going to Afghanistan. He is a pilot for unmanned aircraft’s. We asked him what brought him to Temple Square and he told us he didn’t know. He just felt he should come here today. As we spoke more with David, he shared with us his feelings about God. He grew up Christian and he always believed that God was there. He told us that he had lost a lot of loved ones in his life and he didn’t understand why he was going through the trials he was. I shared with him my experience of when Papa passed away. We bore testimony that I knew that through the Gospel of Jesus Christ we can be with the people we love again. He said “yes, I believe that.” He was thirsty and he wanted to know how he could see those he loves again, he wanted to know more about the Gospel. We shared with him the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We spoke about the Atonement of Jesus Christ and how it gives us strength to go through trials and challenges in life. David said that he felt burdened and guilty for some things he had done in the past. He asked us if God could forgive Him for being in the army. We told Him that God knows him perfectly. He knows His heart and through repentance, baptism, receiving the Holy Ghost, that burden of guilt can be lifted. We invited Him right there to be baptized. He said YES.
We are meeting David again on Saturday. Later that night we saw him again. He read the pamphlets to lesson 1, 2 and 3. Other Sister Missionaries on the Square spoke with him after our visit – they said they saw him studying the pamphlets and they answered some questions he had about the Plan of Salvation. The Plan of Salvation is his favorite lesson. A close friend of mine, Sister West from Salt Lake City Central Mission and I emailed recently. Sister West mentioned that she was now serving in Tooele, Utah. Today, I emailed her and told her about David. David is living in Tooele, Utah.
I know that miracles do happen. David is a miracle. God will do everything within his power to help His children return home to Him. He will align the stars if necessary. If I don’t help anyone else on my mission, my joy will still be full, because we are helping David.
Sister Marroquin is settling well into the missionary schedule. She is more confident in speaking with English visitor’s now. She has a beautiful testimony and I know that she will be a powerful tool in the Lord’s hands to bring salvation to many souls. I am developing Christlike attributes from her. She knows exactly why she is here and I am thankful for her support. I love her.
The Gospel is wonderful. Live it and Love it!
